Causes of Arthritis
What are the causes of Arthritis?
What are the causes of arthritis? This is a question many doctors and research scientist have tried to answer for years. The problem with identifying the causes of arthritis is that there are so many different things which might be responsible.
Arthritis is a disorder that involves inflammation of the joints. The word arthritis comes from the Greek arthron meaning “joint” and the Latin means “inflammation”. The plural of arthritis is arthritides. Arthritis is not a single disease – it is a generic term which covers over 100 medical conditions.
Some Causes of Arthritis
When people think about arthritis the image of an elderly person struggling to get along tends to spring to mind. Well, one of the main factors in the onset of arthritis is in fact age.
As you get older the cartilage in your joints loses its elasticity and it becomes stiffer over the years, it is then more susceptible to damage. The cartilage acts as a shock absorber, when the joint is under load this will cause wear & tear of the cartilage.
The tendons and ligaments then get stretched causing pain and eventually the bones of the joint may rub together, making it worse and cause inflammation. This type of arthritis is called Osteoarthritis, and it is one of the most common forms of Arthritis.
Genetics has an effect on the individual’s susceptibility to arthritis, which brings me onto another common form of arthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis (Ra).
The causes for arthritis are not fully understood and in the case of Ra this is even truer. This type of Arthritis is centered around the immune system.
The immune system is the body’s main deference against attacking foreign cells, such as viruses and bacteria. In the case of Ra the immune system mistakenly attacks the body’s own tissues, particularly the Synovium, which is a thin membrane that lines the joins. This immune systems attack results in a build-up fluid which in turn causes pain and inflammation.
Are Causes of Arthritis Fully understood?
[svpVideo v=1]The actual cause is still not known but it is generally accepted that it is a combination of Genetic and Environment conditions. There are over 100 different types of joint disease or conditions under the arthritis umbrella, but Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoarthritis are the most common.
Another element which is linked to arthritis is an old injury coming back to haunt you. If you played a lot of sport in your youth or you sustained an injury, say to the knee, this can advance the onset of degenerative arthritis.
The other trigger commonly associated as one of the causes of arthritis is Obesity, the more weight loaded onto the joint everyday has a price to pay later in life. You may start to feel the effects much earlier than you would normally expect and it may also be a key factor if you are still in your 30’s or 40’s and have that persistent Swollen knee. All the causes of arthritis are not known but there are natural ways to treat and manage the condition, PROVAILEN being one of them.
